Astro Micro Biology: The Study and application of MicroBiology as an exciting New field of Science beyond Earth and into the vast Universe.
As we as a race progress technologically our foot steps will continue to venture ever further beyond that of our home planet Earth. Man has set foot upon our own Moon and is soon to make history upon Mars, the race to achieve this historic milestone is on. At present we have orbiting Satellites, Robotic surveyors and Rovers probing new worlds, sending back data with which we can build progressing knowledge and understanding. We are slowly building pictures of these Extra terrestrial worlds, hypothesising and theorising as we build ever more knowledge, new avenues of thought presenting themselves as the new Alien environments stimulate the open minds of science. Science itself breaking into the most exciting time of it's own existence, leading many of us to treasure our very own existence as members of this rare advanced Species within this given time frame upon Earth. This time and life given unto us, a true jewel, a Blessing, changing our individual and collective perceptions as we venture ever forward into the Universe.
There were once the great Explorers upon our own Earth, now we have the greatest frontier of all before us, awaiting our technological advancement with open arms; the Universe. The greatest era of Man is unfolding, the most exciting and awe inspiring of discoveries are just a matter of time. Ever since the dawn of Man we have been fascinated by the stars and their orbitting Systems of planets and moons, alas galaxies, Nebulae and other wonderous phenomena. Advances in Telescopes and technology have enabled us to see further and deeper than ever before, the beauty and enticing new prospects push our yearning ever forth.
The Basic building blocks of life are scattered throughout the universe, our very being made up of the Elemental compositions found throughout, abundance and concentration depending on environmental factors of course. There are perhaps an infinite numbers of Stars ( Suns ) with their own Solar systems, orbitting planets and moons all subject to the same elements as our own planet in various ratios depending on the situation of. There are so many variables to consider when considering life and the existence of, this makes the search for and understanding of other Worlds as important as the understanding of our own.
I have no doubt in my mind that there is an abundance of life out there from micro to macro in form waiting to be discovered, named and catalogued. Life as we know can thrive in some of the most extreme and inhospitable places on Earth, why not elsewhere? There are many billions of other galaxies, the number of worlds out there too many for the mind to rationalise and put in context, is Earth the only planet upon which life flourishes? Life due to environmental stimuli and conditions can appear in the most diverse of forms, it is due to Zonation and succession through evolutionary progression that Life adapts to thrive in a given environment to the point of adapting beyond. In most cases life has evolved to move beyond it's own confines, so it would be narrow minded to suggest Earth is the sole Planet in the Universe that sustains life, life evolves, life adapts, the building blocks scattered throughout the universe.
Our understanding of life has reached such a level that we are able to in effect synthesise it in various ways, our scientific understanding moves ever forward. Sentient life is a likely possibility, advanced life with the means to explore Space a lesser possibility but a plausable one, is the human race upon this planet the only race able? Man is in the scheme of things when you look at what has gone before it and it's relative age on Earth, a young Species. If we compare this factor to the age of the planet and Universe this then creates in our Minds all sorts of possibilities when applying it to other Earth like planets.
Our existence as a Species is literally a blink of an eye in the age of the Universe's terms, what would have happened had the great prehistoric Hunters reigned Earth? What would have been their evolutionary path? When we apply the evolutionary development of a species in regards to timeline, in a given environment it creates many avenues of thought as to what is present upon Extraterrestrial life supporting worlds. The wonders of the Universe are forever unfolding, our knowledge continually building, the future an interesting one for the Human race.
Environmental shifts, differing and changing zones of tollerance are a fact of life, some lifeforms exposed to far greater fluctuations in change than others. There have been the extreme Climatic shifts upon Earth, this affecting life in numerous ways, the strongest adapting and evolving as time progresses, surely this would apply to Extraterrestrial life supporting planets too. There is an open Book without print awaiting our species and it is a privelege to proffer Astro MicroBiology as a viable new subject area in the new Era of man.

Science needs to embrace and adapt to the new era, Astro Micro Biology as a subject is extremely relevant to the study of life upon new worlds and I believe it has a place within Man's scientific let alone eventual future among the Stars. We know Sun's have their own life expectancy, should Man live beyond it's own creative and destructive threats, thus survive long enough to eventually witness the Suns ultimate demise then we as Humans will have an interesting future. Should we as a Race learn to respect and accept the fragility of Earth thus in turn apply this protective and conservative nature to the Universe, then there is a future. The Human race if hurdles are overcome will evolve enough technologically to ultimately colonise the Heavens, ultimately continuing in our exploration of the Universe. The technological future is giving the Human race endless possibilities, if we continue on our evolutionary path and tread beyond the life expectancy of our own life giving Sun then the Human race has no end.
As a race we will most certainly venture further and further into Space and eventually develop the means to colonise way before the death of our own Sun, of that I have no doubt as the Sun has many Millions of years in it yet, just look at what has been achieved in the last 50 years of Man. In order to give those in the future/distant future the means to create alternatives and continue in our exploratory evolution as a species we must continue in our technological advancement as a Species, it is our destiny. I hope there will be significant Scientific support for the New Sciences I am proffering, a few of which I have put forward for prior acceptance in anticipation of their much needed eventuality. Some may consider these premature but in all honesty I believe there is already an important place and much viability. The acceleration of technology and mans passion is going to lead to some monumental breakthroughs in the next 50 years, of that I have no doub't in my mind.
As most are aware the latest Mars rover Curiosity along with other mechanical remotely operated friends are relaying all sorts of data back to Earth, it will not be long before in my opinion the existence of microbial life is reported, be it on Mars or elsewhere. The presence of Methane gas has already been reportedly found, methane we know is a by product of life, in my opinion the hurdle on Mars at present is sample depth. Will the methane prove to be produced by microbial life of life on Mars or will it be of geological origin, we will have to wait and see.
Some believe life elsewhere in the universe has been known about for a long time as it is, there are numerous conspiracy theories and exciting Block busters have resulted. The impact of what life and the prospect of other Alien civilisations could have upon our civilisation is of concern and the needs and beliefs of the greater masses should be considered and the impact treated very sensitively. Life as we know it has changed it's form numerous times due to environmental stimulus upon our own planet that we can only begin to dream as to what we may encounter upon another life sustaining planet. Science has enabled us to gather data and information upon which to build hypothesis in turn upon which we can build hypothetical planetary and life models, it is an extremely exciting field.
Planetary bodies within our own Solar system are an ideal testing ground for our technological leaps and fine tuning but as time progresses our reach needs to become far greater. New deep space telescopes with an array of means to study other Planetary systems with high probabilities of life sustaining environments is a must. There are numerous and exciting projects ongoing and awaiting implementation by the likes of NASA and ESA, life is certainly out there and when the day dawns upon which life upon other worlds is reported beyond any reasonable doub't our existence as a species will enter a new realm. This new era posing numerous significant impacts affecting and changing our individual lives in many ways impacting upon the way in which we as a race perceive our own existence and place amongst the billions of other worlds inhabitating this vast infinite universe.
